I wish that this mask was made in different sizes. I cannot write a review about its effectiveness because it does not fit my face. I bought it as protection against smoke and pollutants currently in the air from the wildfires burning in Southern California. I tried on this mask and I feel like it swallows up 2/3 of my petite face. It actually covers to my mid eye area and a couple inches under my chin. There is no way to securely adjust and attach the mask thereby making it useless to me.

These are wonderful. Much better than the cheaper ones without the valve. We have used them to filter out the dust from renovating two houses, and they work great. However, these do increase the work of breathing a surprising amount because of the amount of filter material that it takes to filter out those harmful particles. Use them cautiously if you have lung problems. The exhalation valve seems to help a bit, making exhalation easier but breathing in is still work. These are supposed to filter out 95% of the particles, but that depends on how well they fit. Make sure there are no air leaks around the edges. I found the fit to be good on both men and women’s faces, and the outside of the mask material was noticeably soiled by the end of the day but the inside was unchanged, indicating to me that air was being filtered by the mask. One minor gripe is that the masks are placed in the bag pointing down, so that if you don’t tightly seal the plastic bag each time you get into it, dust will settle onto the inside of the masks, to be inhaled. Turn the masks over in the bag so that the outside of each is pointing up, or even better, seal the bag tightly each time you get into it. Do the same when you take them off for breaks.

Worked well with the terrible smoke and other junk in the air after the recent big fires north of San Francisco!
My wife has short hair, and she had some problems getting the mask over her head and to fit.
I have a large head and had no problems besides getting it on the first time.
With even moderate time exposure to the smoke and whatever, the masks had to be replaced. Which might be good news as the smoke and whatever was blocked by the mask.
These masks quickly sold out in the two county fire. One of the chain hardware stores had the following message: “Thank you for calling ********. How can we help you with the exception of the 3 M Cool Flow Mask. We and our suppliers are out of stock.
I had ordered our first box from the ocean where we were during the fire’s first few days. When we returned home, a neighbor had put the Prime box on our kitchen table. So we had them when others had to use the cheap masks.
I ordered an extra box to have as an emergency back up.
